Better the Devil You Know eBook Bey Deckard Starr Waddell

This book was a bit much for me, I almost returned it after the first chapter and it just...wow. I really have no idea what to say. The author wasn't lying when they said this was a horror novel and I seriously feel the need to go wash my brain with a fuzzy frou frou good feelings romance book.

Despite the horrid scenes that assaulted me throughout this book I seriously could NOT stop reading it which was why I gave it five stars, also the author gives fair warning at the start and I continued regardless and then just couldn't stop.

If you're into horror books, and I mean like straight up gruesome torture scenes and horrendous acts against your fellow man then this book is for you! If you're not then I'd seriously suggest you not even start reading it because it will suck you in and you'll find it hard not to read it to the end.

Also, wtf Bey! Your mind seriously scares me after reading this lol, you're stinkin' twisted! Okay, time to try to find a sweet book to start the brain bleach process! Please don't murder me, I have lady parts! >.<

Better the Devil You Know eBook Bey Deckard Starr Waddell Reviews

Daring, surprising, dark and suspenseful, Better the Devil You Know takes you on a wild ride and makes you squirm—in discomfort and more often in delight. There are moments of humor that are sometimes more shocking than the horror bits. The writing is stellar. This is horror that will leave you in awe.
Like really, freaking wow. Not my usual genre of book, but hey, Bey Deckard wrote it so I'll give it a try. Was not disappointed. Some serious ick moments, but with enough well written story to make it easy to read. Heed the warning from the author before buying, but for sure take a chance - this book is definitely worth it.

I would've given 5 stars even before the little mention of radiology techs - but after? 5+ ! (We are never noticed, and to be gets us a little excited ;) )
** spoiler alert **

So awesome!! So special!!
This book caught my mind immediately, and gave me a totally different way to feel the sickness inside the character! And I actually really enjoy the graceful insanity in Byron.
This story started with a shocked, brutal, detailedly described crime scene, leaved a really strong impression in mind. And suddenly, the story went to a surprising direction, after Lucifer showed.
The past of Byron, the victim of Bryon, and extremely bloody torture came after one by one, there were no relax for our reader. This amazingly held my breath, and caught me full attention.
I specially loved the part started from when Lucifer put the rehabilitation session on Byron himself, till the end of the story. The emotion kept ran and turned unpredictably.
I'm glad that I didn't miss this book!!

By the way, I really like to know what "Huhleeze" might refer to, during the end of Byron's rehabilitation session with Lucifer.
Wow. I loved this book and highly recommend it....IF you read the tags and understand what you're getting ready for. It's not for everyone. The author recommends that you do so. You might want to read a sample. It's dark, it's disturbing and twisted, suspenseful, unexpectedly erotic and completely amazing that such a short book manages to have two very complex characters so fully developed. Someone else said it was like watching a movie and that is a great way to describe it. If you love charismatic, charming monsters, (think Hannibal Lecter, Dexter) you're going to love these characters. I don't want to give anything away it's like a dark carnival ride. Half the fun is imagining what's around the next corner and the opening chapter lets you know that anything you never even wanted to imagine happening, might (happen).
I don’t like bad things happening to people, not in real life, but in fictional books it’s open slather – but I have to be in the mood. Knowing your own limits and your idea of enjoyable reading is important because this is not a comfortable read. It also doesn’t ease up because bad things do happen to good people throughout. It truly is macabre, although the writing is also interspersed with tongue in cheek humour. I didn’t love the two main players, but I did find them intriguing. The writing also had a hook or two that made me want to keep reading - the psychology, the constant unknown, the politics. Because the author put his foot down and unabashedly went for it with his writing, it has such a verve about it. I love the title, it’s so apt, the world building was pretty darn good as well. The book absolutely achieved its primary aim. And, well, I’ll be honest, I have this total soft spot for Gloria. Hellishly interesting and impure reading.
The beginning of this book was beyond disturbing. So were other several parts of it. And by disturbing, I mean the extreme edge of limits disturbing. Hardcore torture, rape, and pain are used to feed and bring sexual satisfaction. And let's not forget about the forced incest, both with attached and detached body parts.

Despite all this, I gave this book 5 stars. Why? Well, underneath the psychopathic sexual proclivities of both MCs lay the idea of goodness. The idea of goodness in Hell, and that pain served a higher purpose.

So, despite all the triggers and extremely violent depictions of sexual lust and torture, this book was about becoming our true selves and putting that nature to its best uses.

This isn't a love story. Not in the least. But Bey Deckard does provide us with the most logical of endings given the realities of the world he depicted. Well written and ridiculously imaginative, this is an amazing book if you can stomach the bad, and know that you'll get your reward in the end.
